"We didn’t feel like friends from Episode Six anymore. I felt closer to Jon Lord and Ian Paice."

30 DAYS OF GODZILLA CHALLENGE[DAY 3 - Favorite Human Protagonist]: I really had to mull this one over for a while. In what I consider to be the best Godzilla flicks, the human protagonists are just as important as the kaiju themselves. In fact, I would say that the human element is what generally controls the ranking of a Godzilla film (at least in my addled brain)!
There were several strong contenders and while Nick Adams’ Astronaut Glen is definitely one of the most memorable, I’d have to say that my favorite human protagonist must be DR. DAISUKE SERIZAWA from GOJIRA (1954). Serizawa sacrificed himself so that the world would be rid of a terrible monster. So that the evil that exists in man would not have access to his terrible technology. So that Emiko Yamane could be with the man she truly loved, Hideto Ogata. In 60 years of kaiju films, I’d say that Serizawa’s ultimate sacrifices were never rivaled by ANY character in the Godzilla series or beyond.

"'Smooth Dancer' is a love song, basically. Read between the lines. It's a song about Ritchie, where I'm saying, “How great you are. If only.”"

"Then we all started getting with long-term serious girlfriends,
and then communication became even more difficult because, I think,
some of the girls fell out with each other. (…)
So then you want to go to the bar and have a drink with your musician
friend, but you can’t because he’s staying at a different hotel, and
even if he were he’d be on the other side with his girlfriend and
you’d be on this side with your girlfriend, or circle of friends,
as they would become. (…)
And from being… um… I wouldn’t say ‘friends’ but we got
on pretty well. We did get on very well and being and being roommates and…
(long pause) getting the best I think we could out of a relationship,
it went to the point where it was quite confrontational."

Ian Gillan on the decline of his relationship with Ritchie Blackmore during the Machine Head era [from “Ian Gillan: Highway Star - A Journey in Rock”]

She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita.
